Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior representative commented the attack made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
